It was said that Kyrgyzstan receives electricity from Uzbekistan in exchange for water

Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic exchange electricity.  This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

It was emphasized that the energy system of the Central Asian countries, in particular, the energy system of the Republics of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, works in parallel.

“Taking this into account, according to the agreement between the energy companies of the two countries, the supply of electricity will be carried out under the condition of mutual exchange of goods (return in the amount received),” the report says.

In the spring season of 2023, 150 million kWh of electricity was delivered from Uzbekistan to the Kyrgyz Republic (in the period of low domestic consumption).

In turn, according to the agreement, the Kyrgyz Republic will return this amount of electricity to Uzbekistan in the summer season.  At the same time, it is said that the Kyrgyz Republic will supply water for the agriculture of Uzbekistan during this period through the Norin River.

“The news spread on social networks that the Republic of Uzbekistan has supplied a large amount of electricity to the Kyrgyz Republic for a small amount of money is completely groundless in this regard,” the report says.
