Temporary detention center in Kashkadarya closed

The temporary detention center in the Karshi district of Kashkadarya region has been closed, according to the Human Rights Representative of the Oliy Majlis.

It was reported that the cells in some temporary detention centers were in disrepair, with several deficiencies identified. These included substandard natural and artificial lighting, inadequate sanitary and hygienic conditions, and faulty ventilation systems. The Ombudsman has submitted a formal request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to address these issues.

As a result, the temporary detention center in Karshi has been shut down, and individuals previously held there have been transferred to the renovated temporary detention center in the Kasbi district, under the Internal Affairs Department. The Ombudsman conducted inspections of the facility’s staff, resulting in the dismissal of one employee and the review of the actions of nine others by the "Disciplinary Councils."

The report states that the Ministry is actively working to improve the conditions of temporary detention facilities, including equipping cells and washrooms with the necessary fixtures to meet sanitary requirements.
