8987A man in the Kashkadarya region who shot his wife has been sentenced to one year in prison, according to Supreme Court press secretary Aziz Obidov.
The incident occurred on May 23 at 5:30 p.m. when the man, reportedly intoxicated, returned home and expressed his intention to assist craftsmen working on their street. His wife opposed this, leading to a family argument.
Amid the dispute, the man retrieved a shotgun from a safe and fired it, allegedly to scare his wife. The woman fled into the street. Enraged, the man fired another shot from a distance of 25-30 meters, which hit the woman in the back and thigh. The woman sustained minor injuries and was taken to the emergency room, where she later died.
During the trial, the man partially admitted his guilt, claiming he had no intention of harming his wife and only wanted to frighten her.
The Karshi District Court for Criminal Cases found him guilty under Part 3 of Article 126-1 (Domestic Violence) of the Criminal Code. The court sentenced him to one year in prison, considering that he did not intentionally kill his wife and that the bullet had fragmented after hitting the ground before striking her.
It is worth noting that earlier, a man in the Samarkand region was sentenced to 19 years in prison for beating his 23-year-old wife to death with a hoe. He was found guilty under Part 2, Subparagraph "j" of Article 97 (Intentional Murder) of the Criminal Code.
