Counterfeit alcohol claims more lives in Istanbul: 17 Uzbeks dead

3856The death toll of Uzbek citizens who have died from consuming counterfeit alcohol in Istanbul has risen. On January 17, three more Uzbek men lost their lives, bringing the total to 17 as of January 18, according to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul.
The Consulate is working to facilitate the return of the deceased to Uzbekistan, preparing the necessary documents to send their bodies home. Additionally, the Consulate is providing assistance to the families of the victims.
Meanwhile, five Uzbek citizens are still receiving treatment in intensive care units at hospitals in Istanbul after being poisoned by counterfeit alcohol. Consulate officials are in constant contact with their families and medical staff to monitor their conditions.
Diplomats from the Consulate are also coordinating with local authorities, including the Istanbul Governorship, the Health Department, the Forensic Medical Examination Center, and law enforcement, to address the situation.
The Consulate has revealed that some victims, fearing the cost of medical care, attempted to treat themselves at home, which led to severe complications, including kidney failure, vision impairment, and breathing issues. The Consulate has urged citizens to seek immediate medical attention by calling 112 for an ambulance, emphasizing that emergency services are free of charge.

Previously, four Uzbek citizens had died from counterfeit alcohol poisoning, which had brought the death toll to 14.
