Department of Internal Affairs warns of new Telegram fraud scheme

Fraudsters are targeting users on the Telegram platform with deceptive messages offering “Telegram Premium for 1 year as a New Year's gift,” according to a statement from the Tashkent City Main Department of Internal Affairs.  

The fraudulent messages often appear to come from close acquaintances but are actually sent by scammers.  

“If you open the message, similar messages will automatically be forwarded to your contacts under your name. Additionally, the virus embedded in the link can steal personal information from your phone, potentially leading to unauthorized withdrawals from your bank account,” the statement warned.  

The Department of Internal Affairs advises citizens to immediately delete such messages if they receive them.  

Previously, authorities reported other fraudulent schemes involving fake Telegram profiles created in the names of high-ranking officials, targeting subordinates for financial gain.
