The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating New York Mayor Eric Adams' connections with Uzbekistan, according to a report by the New York Daily News.

Adams is under scrutiny by federal prosecutors for allegedly receiving illegal campaign contributions from Turkish officials and businessmen.

Additionally, his relationships with five other foreign countries are being investigated for potential abuse of governmental interests. These countries include Israel, China, Qatar, South Korea, and Uzbekistan.

Responding to press inquiries about the investigation, Adams expressed surprise that his friendly relations with foreign countries were being viewed as unusual.

"The largest Jewish population outside of Israel lives in New York. Yes, I have good relations with Israel, as I do with many countries. What is surprising about having relations with Israel, one of our partners?" he stated.

Federal investigators are examining several matters, including Adams' multiple trips to Turkey, his involvement in a charity campaign linked to Turkey, and his potential role in expediting the opening of the Turkish consulate in New York.

For context, Eric Adams, a 20-year veteran of the police force, was elected mayor of New York on November 4, 2021.

It is worth noting that last year, Uzbek officials, including Saida Mirziyoyeva, then Head of Communications and Information Policy of the Executive Office of the Presidential Administration, and Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, met with Mayor Adams during their visit to New York.
