13556The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wants to remove boxing from the Olympic program starting from 2024. The reason for this was the signing of a new sponsorship agreement by the International Boxing Association with Gazprom.
The IOC has not yet included boxing in the program of the Olympic Games to be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
The IOC protested that the IBA would remain under the “custody” of a company controlled by the Russian government.
“In light of recent events, the IOC will be forced to consider all the circumstances that will lead to the exclusion of boxing from the 2024 Olympic program,” The IOC statement said.
Earlier, IBA supporters led by Roy Jones held a demonstration at the IOC headquarters with the demand to include boxing in the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
