Blogger Otabek Sattori has been transferred from prison to a penal colony, as disclosed by Abdurahman Tashanov, chairman of the 'Ezgulik' society for human rights in Uzbekistan, through his Facebook post.

Sattori, a blogger from Surkhandarya, was convicted by the Muzrabot district court on May 10, 2021, under Article 139 (slander), part 3, paragraphs 'a' and 'g', and Article 165 (extortion), part 3 of the Criminal Code. He was found guilty of the offenses mentioned in paragraph 'a'.

Per Article 57 of the Criminal Code, which deals with imposing lighter penalties, and considering the amalgamation of punishments under Articles 59 (imposition of punishment for multiple crimes) and 61 (guidelines for calculating cumulative penalties) of the Criminal Code, Sattori received a sentence of 6 years and 6 months of imprisonment.

Following the blogger's arrest, the international organization 'Human Rights Watch' (HRW) condemned Sattori's detention, viewing it as an assault on freedom of speech within the country.
