13880Blogger Otabek Sattori has been released from prison. The Karshi District Court, on February 5, reviewed and granted the petition filed by Sattori, who had been sentenced to six years. This information was provided by the courts in the Kashkadarya region.
The court altered the decisions of the Muzrabot district court on May 10, 2021, the appellate instance of the criminal trial panel of the Samarkand regional court on July 15, 2021, and the classification instance of the criminal trial panel of the Oliy Sud on April 5, 2022. Consequently, Otabek Sattori's plea for a six-year imprisonment was considered and accepted. The court replaced his sentence, stating that the remaining 2 years, 11 months, and 25 days until February 5, 2024, will now be served through correctional work, with 20 percent of the salary directed to the state income.
It is worth noting that Otabek Sattori, a blogger from Surkhandarya, was found guilty of slander (Article 139, part 3, paragraphs "a," "g") and extortion (Article 165, part 3) according to the judgment of the Muzrabot district court on May 10, 2021. He originally received a sentence of 6 years and 6 months.
Following the blogger's arrest, the international organization "Human Rights Watch" characterized Sattori's detention as a setback for freedom of speech in the country.
Furthermore, Fozilkhoja Orifkhojaev, who was imprisoned for 7 years and 6 months on charges related to possessing and distributing materials of questionable religious content, has also been released.
