Uzbekistan plans to implement separate electricity accounts for each family living in a shared house. Anvar Gaybullayev, the first deputy chairman of "Territory Electric Networks," made this announcement during a press tour on July 11.

Gaybullayev highlighted that up to four families can live in a single household in the country.

"In Uzbekistan, one account number is assigned per cadastre, which corresponds to one household. Currently, there can be up to four families living under one cadastre. These families often use at least 800 kWh of electricity per month, exceeding the 200 kWh limit. We have proposed solutions for this issue and believe it needs urgent resolution," stated Gaybullayev, the first deputy chairman of the HET board.

He further elaborated on the proposed solution.

"For instance, in a house with three or four families, we propose either opening separate accounts for each family or collaborating with the National Agency of Social Protection to address this within the social sector. The current system results in high electricity costs. To ensure fairness, we suggest that each family should have its own account, linked to one cadastre, but managed separately as consumers. We are confident a solution will be found," Gaybullayev explained.

Additionally, from August 1, a new billing system will be introduced for electricity calculation. In November, it was also announced that the government would cover electricity bills for the autumn-winter season for those needing social protection.
