2 deputy governors caught with bribes in Andijan

The deputy governors of Bostan district in Andijan region, responsible for investment and for agriculture and water management, were caught taking bribes, the State Security Service reported.
According to the investigation, the two officials colluded to demand a bribe of 65 million soums in exchange for covering a farmer’s $500,000 export plan through fake export transactions.
In August, the deputy governor for agriculture and water management received 25 million soums of the requested sum as an advance. The remaining 40 million soums was later received through the deputy governor for investment, who was detained with physical evidence.
A criminal case has been opened against both officials under Article 210, Part 2, Subparagraphs “c” and “d” of the Criminal Code (bribery). They have been placed under arrest.
It is worth noting that earlier, a tax inspector in Shorchi district of Surkhandarya region was caught taking a bribe. He was accused of colluding with a citizen to demand 8 million soums in exchange for clearing a tax debt of 19.4 million soums owed by a local entrepreneur’s company.
