Aliyev congratulates Mirziyoyev on successful elections in Uzbekistan

7854The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, extended his congratulations to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan on the successful election of members to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local councils, held on October 27. The Azerbaijani President's press service reported the message.
"This election, conducted for the first time in Uzbekistan's history under a mixed electoral system, underscores your country's dedication to building a democratic state. The vote results reflect your people’s confidence in your chosen political direction and their genuine support for your efforts to advance and strengthen Uzbekistan. I wish the new Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis success as it begins its work," the message stated.
This election marked the first implementation of a mixed electoral system for the Legislative Chamber in Uzbekistan.
In this system, constituencies are divided into single-member and proportional constituencies: 75 deputies are elected through a majoritarian (single-mandate) system, while the remaining 75 are chosen via proportional representation based on party votes.
At a press conference on October 28, Central Election Commission Chairman Zayniddin Nizomkhojayev announced that Uzbekistan's Liberal Democratic Party won the majority of seats in parliament. According to Nizomkhojayev, 15,027,529 voters participated in the election, making up 74.72% of the electorate.
