7031The Democratic Party "National Revival" is advocating for a "3-year maternity leave with salary" initiative, as announced by party leader Alisher Qodirov on his Telegram channel.
Qodirov expressed concern that men are being marginalized not just within families, but throughout society, which he believes could have serious negative consequences. He elaborated on his perspective:
"It has been a long time since male educators and teachers have been prevalent in kindergartens and schools. Recently, men seem to be increasingly excluded from family roles... Different cultures have distinct values, and ours is unique. Are we abandoning our values, shaped over millennia, in favor of ideologies that have already undermined family structures and fatherhood, portraying the balance between male and female relationships as detrimental to women's well-being?"
He also highlighted the impact of portraying all Uzbek men negatively by using the behavior of a few violent and uneducated individuals as representatives.
In the main part of his speech, Qodirov discussed the party's plans for a significant change in labor legislation.
"We are proposing in our election program to provide up to 3 years of paid maternity leave for women who give birth, conditional on their participation in parenting training," he stated.
Currently, the maternity leave procedure outlined in the Labor Code differs significantly from Qodirov's proposal.
Specifically, Article 404 of the Labor Code provides a woman with 70 calendar days of leave before childbirth and 56 calendar days after childbirth (70 calendar days in cases of difficult births or multiple children) with an allowance of at least seventy-five percent of her salary.
Article 405 allows a woman, upon request, to take childcare leave until her child reaches two years of age, with an allowance paid according to the Cabinet of Ministers' regulations. Additionally, unpaid leave is granted for child care until the child is three years old.
