School student in the USA raises awareness about the Aral Sea crisis

Interviews

Studying in the United States offers students access to a comprehensive and modern education system. Schools not only provide academic knowledge but also equip students with social, creative, and ethical skills essential for success in society. With a high degree of choice and flexibility, students can explore various fields and tailor their education to their interests.

Additionally, American school education stands out for its inclusivity, innovative teaching methods, and cultural diversity. Overall, studying in the USA offers a wealth of opportunities and experiences.

In recent years, it has become increasingly common to see young people aiming to pursue higher education in countries known for their high-quality academic programs—and many have already achieved this goal. But what about Uzbek students who study abroad at the school level, rather than at a university? How can students continue their secondary education overseas? What are the requirements? Today, we discuss these questions with Gulbadan Bayniyazova, an 11th-grade student from Karakalpakstan who is currently studying at a high school in the United States.

"There is a huge difference between schools in Uzbekistan and the U.S. Firstly, in American schools, you can choose your own subjects. For example, if you want to become a doctor, you can focus on subjects like biology and chemistry. I study seven subjects, whereas in Uzbekistan, students typically take 14–15. Secondly, there is no official school uniform—students are free to wear what they like. Thirdly, students have their own classrooms, while teachers move between them. Additionally, students from different grade levels can study together in the same class. For instance, in my algebra class, there are students from the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades; there is no strict grade-level separation," explains Gulbadan, comparing the education systems of Uzbekistan and the U.S.
