A drug smuggling attempt involving 45 kilograms of narcotics trafficked from Afghanistan to the Bukhara region has been uncovered. The State Security Service (SSS) reported the incident.
According to the SSS, an operational operation was conducted, during which a Cobalt car driven by a 1988-born resident of Andijan was stopped at the “Chinor” patrol checkpoint in the Ohangaron district of Tashkent region while traveling along the Tashkent–Andijan route.
During the inspection, officers discovered that the passenger — a 1971-born citizen of Kyrgyzstan residing in Osh — was carrying 4 kilograms and 897 grams of hashish. The drugs were officially confiscated in accordance with legal procedures.
It was later revealed that the Kyrgyz citizen had collected the narcotics from a hidden stash located in a field in the Bukhara district. When the site was examined, an additional 45 kilograms and 52 grams of hashish were found.
A criminal case has been initiated by the Investigation Department of the SSS Directorate for the Bukhara region under Articles 246 (Smuggling) and 273 (Illegal preparation, acquisition, storage, or sale of narcotic drugs, their analogues, or psychotropic substances) of the Criminal Code. The suspects have been placed in custody as a preventive measure.
Preliminary investigation showed that the nearly 50 kilograms of drugs had previously been smuggled from Afghanistan into the Bukhara region and were intended to be transported further through Uzbekistan as part of a transit operation.
Earlier, it was reported that a preventive inspector in Tashkent had been caught running a drug laboratory in his service office.
