President praises Uzbek sports achievements at videoconference

4978Today, February 13, a videoconference meeting focused on strengthening preparations for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and enhancing mass sports development was held under the chairmanship of the President of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This was reported by Presidential Spokesperson Sherzod Asadov.
“People who have set great goals for themselves can achieve them only if they are healthy and strong. For the people and the country to be capable of great deeds, the importance of physical education and sports is undoubtedly immeasurable. Today, we are setting ourselves great goals to build a New Uzbekistan, a state open to the world, socially and economically developed,” stated the President.
During the videoconference, Mirziyoyev emphasized that it is impossible to raise a harmonious generation without physical education and sports.
“The dream and intention of every person, every parent is to raise a physically and spiritually harmonious generation. This cannot be achieved without physical education and sports. In short, sport is the pillar of a healthy people and society. At the same time, sport is an ambassador of peace and a source of national pride for every state,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The President also highlighted recent achievements in Uzbek sports. Yesterday, at the Asian Winter Games, Uzbek athletes won the gold medal in figure skating for the first time in 26 years, marking a new chapter in the country's sports history. Additionally, the Uzbek amputee football team triumphed at the Asian Championship in Bangladesh, and the youth team secured 1st place at the Asian Cycling and Para-Cycling Championships in Thailand.
Mirziyoyev congratulated all athletes, their coaches, and parents on their remarkable achievements.
