Today, on May 29, an official welcoming ceremony was held in Samarkand for the Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, who arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit. This was reported by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

A guard of honor lined up in the square in front of the Congress Center. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly welcomed the high-ranking guest and invited her to the podium.

The military orchestra performed the national anthems of both countries. The leaders reviewed the guard of honor and greeted members of their respective official delegations.

Following the ceremony, high-level negotiations commenced.

Giorgia Meloni arrived in Samarkand on May 28. She was personally welcomed at Samarkand International Airport by President Mirziyoyev. Later, the two leaders visited Registan Square and the historical and ethnographic park “Boqiy Shahar” at the “Silk Road Samarkand” international tourism center.

The main events of the Italian Prime Minister’s visit to Uzbekistan are taking place today, May 29. Alongside bilateral talks, a number of other official events are scheduled. Tomorrow, on May 30, the first summit between the leaders of Central Asian countries and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will be held in Astana.

It is worth noting that Meloni originally planned to visit Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to attend the Central Asia–Italy summit from April 25 to 27. However, the trip was postponed due to the death of Pope Francis on April 21 and the subsequent period of mourning.
