Istanbul Başakşehir defeated Gaziantep 2-1 in their final-round match on May 16 this year. Eldor Shomurodov scored his 22nd goal of the season in the match and moved to the top of the scoring race.

In a match held yesterday, May 17, Trabzonspor forward Paul Onuachu failed to score and missed the chance to overtake the Uzbek striker. The Nigerian player has not scored in his last five matches, while Shomurodov has found the net six times in his last six games.

Eldor also recorded the best results in the league for non-penalty goals and goal contributions. Although the two players scored the same number of goals — 22 each — additional statistics put Shomurodov at the top of the list.

Shomurodov became the second Uzbek footballer to finish as top scorer in a European championship. Previously, Maksim Shatskikh was the top scorer in the Ukrainian championship in 2000 and 2003.

For reference, Istanbul Başakşehir, where Abbosbek Fayzullayev and Eldor Shomurodov play, finished the season in fifth place. The team missed out on the chance to compete in European competitions next season.
