Today, May 1, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in the Khorezm region to assess regional development, observe living conditions, and outline new strategic plans. The visit was announced by the presidential press service.

Upon arrival, the President highlighted that many modern hotels, recreational areas, and shopping centers are currently under construction in Khorezm, with the aim of boosting annual tourist numbers to 5 million. However, he criticized Urgench International Airport, noting that it does not fully meet the needs of either residents or visitors. As a result, plans were announced to modernize the airport and transfer its operations to external management.

The President held talks with company executives and project managers involved in the airport initiative. The president of the managing company emphasized that Incheon International Airport—ranked among the top three globally in terms of capacity—is also one of the best in service quality. He added that Urgench will become the company’s second managed airport and confirmed plans to both modernize and oversee its operations.

Discussions also focused on increasing air traffic through cooperation with foreign airlines. It was emphasized that this partnership should be used not only to expand transportation but also to learn from South Korea’s advanced service standards and to train and upskill Uzbek aviation professionals.

It is worth recalling that earlier reports confirmed that President Mirziyoyev’s visit to Khorezm was intended to review newly launched facilities, major transport infrastructure, and urban development projects across the industrial, agricultural, and tourism sectors.
