Today, February 22, the plenary session of the Senate reviewed and approved changes to the borders of Samarkand City, Samarkand District, and Akdarya District in the Samarkand region, the Senate’s press service reported.

The decision is linked to the Presidential Decree on the construction of the "Shirin" business center and residential complex in Samarkand. The project, valued at $10 billion, will be built along a 15-kilometer stretch of the Zarafshan River.

As part of the plan, 243 hectares of land will be transferred from Akdarya district, and 170 hectares from Samarkand district, bringing a total of 413 hectares under Samarkand city. This expansion will increase the current 252-hectare “Shirin” district to 665 hectares.

Additionally, the approved plan outlines the construction of 254 multi-story buildings, accommodating 60,000 apartments for 180,000 residents, along with 45 social facilities. The development will be implemented in three phases.

For reference, similar territorial changes have been made in Tashkent. On March 13, 2024, 19,729.41 hectares of land from the Tashkent region were transferred to the New Tashkent district. Later, on August 22, an additional 158.67 hectares were allocated for the New Tashkent project. Further adjustments were made on October 22, 2024, when 110.4 hectares in the Yukorichirchik district were reassigned for the construction of New Tashkent City.
