President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has outlined a comprehensive plan to employ 92,000 unemployed graduates and create additional job opportunities. He announced this today, August 8, at an expanded meeting focused on the employment of university graduates.
It was reported that Uzbekistan allocates significant funding annually for each student’s education.
The plan includes covering 20,000 graduates with opportunities for a master’s degree or to obtain a second specialty. Another 20,000 graduates are expected to be placed in jobs that do not require internships, across approximately 10,000 enterprises.
In addition, business incubators will be established in every region, aiming to employ 15,000 to 20,000 graduates through entrepreneurial startups, marketing, design, and IT services.
There is also an opportunity to employ 10,000 engineers, technologists, operators, and graduates in fields such as standardization, quality control, finance, and economics within industries like chemical, energy, geology, automotive, metallurgy, and pharmaceuticals. Furthermore, 5,000 to 7,000 graduates could find permanent employment in local industries, including textiles, leather, electrical engineering, building materials, and food production.
Authorities were instructed to employ 6,000 graduates in sectors such as transport, logistics, road construction, and utilities. Additionally, 10,000 graduates will be placed in educational institutions and training centers in the fields of pedagogy, medicine, social protection, culture, and art. Support will also be provided to 30,000 graduates seeking to start their own businesses.
At the same time, it was clarified that self-employment will no longer be counted as formal job placement for graduates.
The President also addressed the issue of unorganized youth, with efforts underway to ensure employment for 115,000 young people. Regional and district leaders, along with ministry heads, are working on this challenge. It was noted that law enforcement agencies have placed 52,000 youths from difficult backgrounds into foster care, which has already yielded positive results.
However, it was stressed that continued efforts are needed to support 5,500 unemployed youths, 31,000 young people from difficult backgrounds, and 3,000 students expelled from educational institutions. Officials, in collaboration with local governors, mahalla chairmen, mayor assistants, and youth leaders, were tasked with training and employing 9,000 unorganized and dropout youths in entrepreneurship, foreign languages, and modern professions. Additionally, they are to involve 31,000 young people from challenging backgrounds in professional and language clubs, sports competitions, and military-patriotic activities.
