Gas leak and explosion claim lives at Ahmadali Hoji Mosque

6614On the afternoon of March 31, a gas explosion occurred at the “Ahmadali Hoji” mosque in Andijan region, leading to a criminal case being initiated. This was reported by the regional prosecutor’s office.
It was determined that in the basement of the ablution building of the “Ahmadali Hoji” mosque in Izboskan district, natural gas leaked from pipes connected to heating equipment and accumulated inside the room. When the electricity was switched on, an explosion occurred, causing the building to collapse.
As a result, 10 individuals inside the building suffered various injuries, and 3 individuals died at the scene.
The Andijan regional prosecutor’s office has initiated a criminal case under Articles 205 (Abuse of Authority or Official Powers) and 259 (Violation of Fire Safety Regulations) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. Preliminary investigative actions are currently underway.
It was stated that during the investigation, all circumstances would be thoroughly examined, and a lawful decision will be ensured.
At 12:19 PM on March 31, Andijan region’s Emergency Situations Department received a report about the explosion of an air-gas mixture at the “Ahmadali Hoji” mosque in the “Mirzo Ulugbek” district. Two rescue teams and two fire-rescue units were dispatched to the scene immediately. Upon hearing the news, Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov and Minister of Emergency Situations, Major General Botir Kudratkhojayev, who were in the valley at the time, reached Izboskan district. Later, the Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Mufti Sheikh Nuriddin Xoliqnazar, also proceeded to the site.
Following the tragic incident, the Cabinet of Ministers formed a government commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov to address the situation.
