A complex of high-tech unmanned aerial systems has been launched in one of the military units of the Border Troops under the State Security Service of Uzbekistan. The announcement was made by the agency's press service.
During the opening ceremony, Chairman of the State Security Service Bakhodir Kurbanov emphasized that serving in the new drone complex is both an honor and a responsibility. Other officials also noted that the effective use of unmanned aerial systems has become a critical strategic element in ensuring national security amid growing global threats.
As part of the event, a practical training session was conducted at the complex’s Flight Control Center, attended by representatives from the high command and law enforcement agencies. During the exercise, a Bayraktar TB-2 drone, acquired from Turkey, successfully destroyed a simulated target using an air-to-ground missile.
According to the State Security Service, Uzbekistan also possesses YIHA-III kamikaze drones developed through trilateral cooperation with Turkey and Pakistan. These drones are primarily used for high-precision strikes on enemy air defense systems, radar installations, and other key infrastructure. The YIHA-III has been tested in combat zones in Ukraine and Syria, and was also reportedly used by Pakistan in its recent conflict with India.
The drone, built around the OTMAS anti-tank missile platform, is lightweight and has a simple structure. While detailed technical specifications have not been disclosed, unconfirmed reports suggest it has a strike range of 160–200 kilometers, can reach altitudes up to 9 kilometers, and remain airborne for up to 120 minutes.
The State Security Service also reported that more than 100 Uzbek military personnel have received specialized training abroad in the field of unmanned aerial systems.
It should be noted that the agency recently launched a Call Center to promptly receive applications from individuals and legal entities on matters within the jurisdiction of the State Security Service.
