The proposal to abolish Samarkand district as a separate administrative-territorial unit was approved today, January 13, at the next session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

During the session, the chamber reviewed and unanimously approved the draft resolution “On the Abolition of Samarkand District of Samarkand Region and on the Adjustment of the Borders of Akdarya, Pastdargom, Toyloq Districts and Samarkand City.”

According to officials, the district is being abolished to transform Samarkand into a “Million City” and to develop residential and non-residential buildings with modern architectural solutions.

As a result, 1,410.6 hectares from Akdarya District, 1,242.3 hectares from Pastdargom District, 13,308 hectares from Samarkand District, and 1,265.6 hectares from Toyloq District will be transferred to the jurisdiction of Samarkand City.

Additionally, 518 hectares from the city and 1,551 hectares from Samarkand District will be added to Pastdargom District, while 28,295 hectares from Samarkand District will be transferred to Toyloq District. The land categories of the areas being reassigned will remain unchanged.

With these border adjustments, the area of Samarkand City will expand from 11,800 hectares to 28,900 hectares, creating opportunities for new development projects. The city’s population is expected to increase from 604,000 to 882,000.

Moreover, new residential complexes are planned, including the “Shirin” township, the “Temir Yo‘l Orti” area, and the “Qorasuv-2” sector, where 710 multi-story residential buildings will accommodate 309,000 people.

Samarkand City will also see the construction of new tourist attractions, playgrounds, an aquapark, hot-air balloon areas, recreational parks, new green spaces, service facilities, and logistics centers.
