A child died in a car accident due to lack of road lighting in Jizzakh

On June 22 of this year, a 15-year-old teenager died in a car accident while crossing the road in Gallaorol district of Jizzakh region.  It was reported in the “Davr” informational program.

It is said that on June 22 of this year at around 9:15 p.m., a 15-year-old teenager died in a road traffic accident on the section of the M39 “Tashkent-Termiz” road of international importance that passed through Gallaorol district of Jizzakh region.  The reason for the incident was that the young man crossed the unmarked part of the road and this road was not lit in the evening.

Local residents say that this is not the first case of human death due to lack of road lighting, 4-5 people have died before.

“Lighting devices on the M-39 road are in the balance of the Improvement Department, they provide service.  It has some technical issues, so it’s off, I think.  The transformers are connected, they just need to be turned on,” says Oybek Sultanov, head of the district electricity supply company.

Ghulam Okmirzayev, the head of the Improvement Department of Gallaorol district, said that the lights were turned off last year due to anomalous cold to save energy, and since then they have not been turned on, they will be turned on only if the authorities allow it.

“There is no electricity debt, it was turned off last year due to anomalous cold.  It has not been turned on since then, but if the authorities allow it, we will turn it on.  We changed all the light bulbs with the staff.  90 percent will burn,” he says.

However, Sahob Ermanov, an expert of the district administration’s construction department, rejected his words.

“There was no order from the authorities to turn it off in order to save electricity.  “Now we will form a working group, consider the issue and solve it today,” he said.

It is noted that 8 km of this road is not illuminated.  It is said that in 2023 alone, 12 Road Transport Accidents occurred on this part of the road.
