Drunk driver in Jizzakh sentenced for causing couple’s death

In the G‘allaorol district of Jizzakh region, a driver under the influence of alcohol caused the death of a married couple and has been sentenced. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this.

According to the report, the incident occurred on October 31, 2024. A 29-year-old individual was driving a ZIL truck owned by another person along the Gallaorol–Bakhmal–Usmat route in the Oqtom neighborhood when he violated traffic rules.

Specifically, the driver broke overtaking rules, entered the Damas vehicle’s lane, and collided with it. A criminal case was initiated under Article 266, Part 3, Clause “a” (Violation of Traffic Safety Rules or Operation of Vehicles) of the Criminal Code.

During a court session held by the Zomin District Criminal Court in Gallaorol district, the driver fully admitted his guilt and confirmed that he had consumed alcohol on the day of the incident.

The court sentenced the defendant to 9 years of imprisonment and revoked his driving privileges for 3 years. Additionally, the court ordered the defendant to pay approximately 30 million UZS in damages to the victim’s legal representative.

As a reminder, earlier in Jizzakh region, a Cobalt driver struck two sisters, aged 13 and 4, who were crossing the road at a designated spot. The driver, responsible for their deaths, was also imprisoned.
