People's Artist of Uzbekistan Jenisbek Piyazov has voiced his frustration after being caught by a speed camera four times within 15 minutes while driving in the Tashkent region. Piyazov shared his thoughts in a critical Instagram post that has since garnered significant attention.
In his video message, Piyazov explained that the fines were issued by a mobile multi-radar system on the D 012 highway, which connects Bektemir sh. and Chorbog kurgoni, leading to the Bostanlyk district. The video has amassed over 1.5 million views, with numerous netizens echoing Piyazov’s criticisms in the comments.
While acknowledging his responsibility to pay the fines, Piyazov expressed concerns about the financial burden these penalties place on ordinary citizens.
“Okay, I’ll pay. But think about how others manage—those living on salaries. For them, this is extremely tough. They will probably shout, ‘Dod!’ Do you have any laws?!” he remarked.
Complaints about the growing number of speed cameras on Uzbekistan’s roads and the significant fines they impose are becoming more common. Thousands of drivers have shared similar grievances, fueling public debate.
Although speed enforcement systems are intended to enhance road safety and control excessive speeding, critics argue that they often seem to prioritize revenue generation over public safety, leading to widespread dissatisfaction.
