Uzbekistan has committed to reducing harmful gas emissions by 50 percent by 2035. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this today, December 5, at a ceremonial event dedicated to launching new energy capacities and commencing construction of upcoming projects.

“During the recent COP-30 climate conference in Brazil, we initiated an important commitment under the Paris Agreement. We have set a goal to cut harmful gas emissions by 50 percent by 2035,” the president stated.

In this regard, Uzbekistan and the World Bank have launched the world’s first innovative “ICRAFT” project. As part of the initiative, 23 million tons of greenhouse gas reductions achieved by Uzbekistan have been recorded, and the country has begun engaging in international carbon credit trading.

This year alone, 17 major industrial enterprises have transitioned to the international certification system for green energy. Within the next two years, the number of such enterprises will reach 100.

The president also noted that cooperation with neighboring countries to establish a unified energy market has been strengthened.

“By efficiently utilizing our region’s hydropower potential and managing it jointly, we will next year begin financing the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 project together with Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

At the same time, I would like to highlight the strong efforts of the leadership of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, with whom we are working closely within the framework of the ‘green corridor’ project for exporting electricity to Europe,” the head of state said.

President Mirziyoyev then symbolically activated the launch, commissioning 42 energy facilities and initiating construction of 21 new projects.
