A 600-hectare tourism zone is planned in the “Qortog” area of the Zarafshan mountain range, along with camping and capsule houses near the “Qoratepa” reservoir. This was announced on November 25 during an extraordinary session of the Samarkand Regional Council of People’s Deputies, attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Urgut district.
Since the beginning of this year, Urgut has welcomed 500,000 foreign and 1 million domestic tourists. The meeting emphasized that tourism projects worth $600 million should be launched in 2026, creating jobs for at least 35,000 people. Entrepreneurs proposed developing a 600-hectare tourism zone in the “Qortog” area of the Zarafshan mountain range.
In addition, building camping and capsule houses around the “Qoratepa” reservoir could create an “eco-village,” providing year-round services for tourists.
A tourist facility is also planned near the Ohangaron reservoir.
Authorities were instructed to establish a tourist-recreational zone directorate in Urgut, develop a master plan, and auction off lots. For the infrastructure of this project, 50 billion soms will be allocated. Overall, projects in Urgut are expected to generate 15,000 jobs across eight districts, with a total investment of $245 million.
It is worth noting that earlier, plans to expand Samarkand city were announced.
