Earlier, it was reported that teachers at School No. 42 in the Markhamat district of the Andijan region were conducting school repairs themselves. The Ministry of Preschool and School Education has responded to the situation.
According to the ministry, the case is currently under strict control and is being thoroughly investigated. Disciplinary measures will be taken against the responsible individuals who caused the teachers to be involved in repair work, in accordance with the established procedures.
In the video, it can be seen that all the teachers working are women, including English, Russian, and mathematics teachers. Some are plastering the walls and ceilings, while others are carrying tables and chairs. Notably, some of the teachers participating in the repairs are doing so during their vacation.
It is unclear whether the school employees participated voluntarily or were forced to do so. However, the video suggests that teachers who took part in the repair work would be rewarded with more teaching hours.
For reference, under the law that increases liability for obstructing the official duties of teachers, if an offense is committed against a teacher at an educational institution, it may result in a fine of 100 to 150 times the basic calculation amount.
Additionally, according to the presidential resolution dated August 14, 2018, it is strictly prohibited to involve public education workers in tasks unrelated to their official duties, including forced labor such as landscaping of district and urban areas, seasonal agricultural work, and other non-educational tasks.
The Cabinet of Ministers has also adopted a resolution “On Additional Measures to Eliminate Forced Labor in the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
