Today, 16 February, dozens of students at the University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan were not allowed to attend classes for not wearing uniforms and for arriving late. The information was shared by university student Bahodir Eliboyev on his Facebook page.

According to him, nearly 100 students from both bachelor’s and master’s programmes were not admitted to classes.

In the video, first-year master’s student Akmal Yuldoshev said he was denied entry because he was not wearing a tie, which was explained as a requirement under internal regulations. He also said such situations lead to additional expenses, as students may have to pay extra under the credit system.

“They provide services to me so that I can study at the university. We have a contract for this, and I have paid. I should be sitting in the classroom receiving lessons from a lecturer, my knowledge should be assessed, and I should receive a diploma at the end. There are two sides to this relationship. Now, under the pretext of internal rules, my consumer, moral and student rights are being violated,” Akmal Yuldoshev said.

The dean Oysha Zokirova commented on the situation, noting that the university is responsible for its image, academic environment and discipline. She stressed the importance of complying with internal regulations and urged students not to damage the university’s reputation. She also said that portraying the issue negatively on social media was inappropriate.

According to the press secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Nazokat Abdukunduzova, some higher education institutions have financial and academic autonomy. Therefore, they may independently establish their internal regulations, and students are advised to comply with them.

Earlier, following a QALAMPIR.UZ investigation, scholarships were paid to students of Tashkent Medical University.
