Uzbekistan will update its Foreign Policy Concept, revising its priority areas and defining clear objectives aimed at protecting national interests and strengthening the country’s position on the international stage. This was stated on January 15 during a video conference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Uzbekistan’s diplomatic missions abroad.
It was noted that ongoing geopolitical shifts, instability in the system of international relations, regional confrontations, and global economic transformations require every state to regularly review its foreign policy and adapt it to national interests and contemporary challenges.
“As a result of our open, pragmatic, and balanced foreign policy in recent years, Uzbekistan’s standing and influence on the international stage have continued to grow,” the president said.
“At the same time, changes in the global security architecture, the emergence of new economic alliances, evolving trade routes, and transformations in technology and energy markets demand a more active, clearly targeted, and results-oriented approach to foreign policy,” he added.
In this context, the need to update Uzbekistan’s Foreign Policy Concept was emphasized, including a reassessment of its priority directions and the formulation of specific tasks aimed at safeguarding national interests and reinforcing the country’s international position.
“The new concept should comprehensively and coherently reflect our country’s long-term strategic goals, the logic of our internal reforms, and our national interests in economic diplomacy, security, investment, exports, transport and logistics, as well as water and climate issues,” the head of state said.
To ensure effective implementation, it was announced that additional funding would be allocated to each embassy. In order to properly recognize the work of diplomats, a proposal was also made to establish the honorary title “Honored Diplomat of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
For reference, during an expanded meeting of the Security Council chaired by the president on January 13, it was announced that Uzbekistan’s Defense Doctrine and National Security Concept would also be revised.
