34202As of January 1, 2023, the balance of Uzbekistan’s public debt amounted to 29.2 billion dollars. This was reported by the information service of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
It is reported that the balance of the public debt of Uzbekistan as of January 1, 2023 is 29.2 billion dollars (including external debt – 25.9 billion dollars, domestic debt – 3.3 billion dollars) or gross domestic compared to the product (GDP) was 36.4 percent.
In particular, the ratio of public debt to GDP decreased from 39.0 percent at the beginning of 2021 (38.0 percent at the end of 2021) to 36.4 percent by the end of 2022.
According to the International Monetary Fund’s report on the country’s economy, Uzbekistan’s public debt is currently at a “moderate” level.
According to it, although the public debt increased by 2.9 billion dollars during 2022, the ratio of public debt to GDP decreased due to the rapid growth of the gross domestic product in US dollar terms, that is, by 11.1 billion dollars. .
Let’s remind that earlier the law “On State debt” was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. According to the law, the state debt in Uzbekistan should not exceed 60% of the gross domestic product.
