A woman involved in the trafficking of Uzbek citizens for prostitution has been detained in Turkey, according to a report from the Consulate General in Istanbul.

Ugilkhon Salieva, born in 1990, was apprehended after being wanted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan. The arrest was made in cooperation with both Uzbek and Turkish law enforcement authorities. Salieva is accused of illegally confiscating the documents of Uzbek citizens abroad and selling them for sexual exploitation. She has since been deported to Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Consulate General has urged any victims of Salieva’s actions to contact either the Consulate in Istanbul or the relevant local branches of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Internal Affairs for assistance.

This case follows a previous arrest in Turkey, where a man who had been wanted since 2015 for committing multiple fraud crimes in the car trade in Uzbekistan was also detained.
