Uzbekistan tops list of labor migrants to Russia in 2024

Uzbekistan currently leads in the number of labor migrants who have moved to Russia within the first nine months of this year, according to a report from "Sputnik."

Based on data from Russia's Unified Interdepartmental Information and Statistical System, a total of 1.748 million Uzbek citizens have traveled to Russia for work during this period. This figure marks an increase of 143,000 migrants compared to the same timeframe in 2023.

Following Uzbekistan, the next largest groups of migrants came from other Central Asian countries. Since the beginning of the year, 884,000 people from Tajikistan and 570,000 from Kyrgyzstan have moved to Russia for employment opportunities.

Other notable countries of origin include:

  • Kazakhstan: 147,000 migrants
  • Armenia: 142,000 migrants
  • Azerbaijan: 104,000 migrants
  • China: 79,000 migrants
  • Other countries combined: 89,000 migrants

Earlier reports highlighted that Russia currently has around 739,000 illegal migrants, with the majority originating from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
