Uzbek referees to officiate World Cup round of 16 match

A referee team led by Uzbek FIFA referee Ilgiz Tantashev will officiate the Paraguay-France match in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. The Uzbekistan Football Association reported this.

It was noted that Tantashev will be assisted in the match by assistant referees Andrey Sapenko and Timur Gaynullin. The match will take place on July 4 this year in Philadelphia, United States, and will kick off at 02:00 Tashkent time.

Notably, the match coincides with celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. Therefore, senior government officials of the country are also expected to watch the match from the stadium.

This is the third appointment for Uzbek referees at the 2026 World Cup. Tantashev and his team also officiated the Morocco-Scotland and Austria-Algeria matches in the group stage.
