Tajik citizen transporting 400 rare turtles from Uzbekistan was caught

A citizen of Tajikistan was caught transporting 400 Central Asian desert tortoises from Uzbekistan in Bekobod, Tashkent region. This was reported by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.

A citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan, born in 1989, Yo.B., was stopped while attempting to transport 400 Central Asian desert tortoises to Tajikistan.

The turtles were handed over to the Department of Ecology of the Tashkent region and transferred to the "Tabiat Bagri" nursery in the Zangiota district for temporary care. Additionally, documents are being prepared and sent to judicial authorities for a legal assessment of the situation and to take necessary measures.

For your information, the Central Asian desert tortoise is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan as a rare and endemic species.
