Number of students in Uzbekistan increases 5.4 times in 10 year

The number of students enrolled in higher education institutions in Uzbekistan has increased 5.4 times over the past decade. This was reported by the National Statistics Committee.
As of the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, the total number of students in higher education institutions across Uzbekistan reached 1,432,800. This marks an increase of 1,168,500 students compared to the 2015/2016 academic year, when the figure stood at 264,300.
The annual breakdown of student enrollment is as follows:
- 2015/2016 academic year – 264,300 students
- 2016/2017 academic year – 268,300 students
- 2017/2018 academic year – 297,700 students
- 2018/2019 academic year – 360,200 students
- 2019/2020 academic year – 441,000 students
- 2020/2021 academic year – 571,500 students
- 2021/2022 academic year – 808,400 students
- 2022/2023 academic year – 1,042,100 students
- 2023/2024 academic year – 1,314,500 students
- 2024/2025 academic year – 1,432,800 students
It is worth recalling that earlier, under the Presidential Decree “On Additional Measures to Ensure the Quality of Education and Improve the System of Providing Educational Services”, admission to correspondence education in all areas in Uzbekistan was officially discontinued starting from the 2025/2026 academic year.
