June 17, Uzbekistan - An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale shook the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan today, according to the latest report from the Republican Center for Seismoprognostic Monitoring.

The seismic event occurred at 04:02 local time, with the epicenter pinpointed in the Sariosiya district of Surkhandarya. The precise coordinates of the earthquake were determined to be 38.79 degrees north latitude and 67.85 degrees east longitude.

With a depth of 10 kilometers, the earthquake's epicenter is situated approximately 299 kilometers southwest of Tashkent, the country's capital.

The impact of the earthquake was felt across various regions of Uzbekistan, with the following perceived power ratings:

  • Sariosiya district: The tremor registered at 4 points on the scale, centered 8 kilometers from the district.
  • Denov district: A magnitude of 2-3 points was reported, with the epicenter located 52 kilometers away.
  • Shahrisabz district: The earthquake registered 2 points on the scale and occurred approximately 65 kilometers from the district.
  • Altinsoy district: The tremor reached 2 points on the scale and originated 69 kilometers away from the district.
  • Uzun district: A magnitude of 2 points was recorded, with the epicenter located 76 kilometers from the district.
  • Kitab district: The earthquake registered 2 points on the scale and occurred approximately 82 kilometers from the district.
