Legal consequences for traffic offenses in Uzbekistan: 173 imprisoned so far this year

1882In the first quarter of 2025, 173 individuals in Uzbekistan were sentenced to imprisonment for causing road traffic accidents, according to Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.
According to official data, 891 people were tried under Article 266 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to violations of traffic safety and vehicle operation regulations. Among them, 718 individuals received penalties that did not involve imprisonment.
In comparison, throughout 2024, 3,321 individuals were prosecuted under the same article. Of these, 917 were sentenced to prison terms, while 2,404 were given alternative punishments.
These figures highlight the stringent legal consequences imposed on those violating traffic regulations, reflecting an ongoing effort to ensure road safety in Uzbekistan.
