In recent days, social media platforms have been flooded with speculations regarding the Uzbek soum, the national currency of Uzbekistan. Addressing the growing concerns, the Press Service of the Central Bank has issued a statement to clarify the situation.

Contrary to the rumors circulating on social networks, the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan has confirmed that there are no plans to denominate or replace the currency. Reports suggesting a conversion rate of 1:10,000 and the introduction of new banknotes alongside the old ones until 2025 have been deemed unfounded.

Mamarizo Nurmurodov, the head of Central Bank, made it clear that both the Government and the Central Bank have not entertained the idea of currency denomination. "These reports have no basis," stated Nurmurodov, emphasizing that no such decision has been contemplated.

Earlier, there were publications spreading news about the release of a new banknote in Uzbekistan, accompanied by images of a banknote denominated as 400,000 soums. However, these reports were subsequently confirmed to be baseless by official sources.

As of now, the Uzbek soum remains the official currency of Uzbekistan, and there are no plans for any changes in its denomination or replacement. The Central Bank's statement serves to dispel the misinformation that has been circulating on social media, ensuring stability and trust in the national currency.

It is advised that the public exercise caution and rely on verified sources for accurate information, rather than spreading unverified claims that can lead to unnecessary confusion.
