Uzbekistan names Timur Ishmetov as a new Central Bank Chairman

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has nominated Timur Ishmetov, First Deputy Advisor to the President on the Development of Economic Sectors, Implementation of Investment, and Foreign Trade Policy, for the position of Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank. The announcement was made by the Presidential Spokesperson, Sherzod Asadov.

Timur Ishmetov was born in 1979 in Tashkent and holds multiple higher education degrees. He graduated from the Tashkent Institute of Finance in 2000, the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom) in 2005, and the Tashkent State Law Institute in 2007. His qualifications include expertise as a financier specializing in banking and credit, as well as a legal background as a lawyer.

From February 2020 to December 2022, Ishmetov served as the Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan. Since December 2022, he has held the role of First Deputy Advisor to the President on the Development of Economic Sectors, Implementation of Investment, and Foreign Trade Policy.

This appointment follows the dismissal of Mamarizo Nurmurodov from his role as Chairman of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan. The Council of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, acting on the proposal of the President, adopted a resolution to remove Nurmurodov from his position.
