Senate officially approves Timur Ishmetov as Chairman of the Central Bank

3945The Council of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, upon the proposal of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has adopted a resolution appointing Timur Ishmetov as Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This announcement was made by the press service of the Senate.
Born in Tashkent in 1979, Ishmetov holds a higher education degree. He graduated from the Tashkent Financial Institute in 2000, followed by the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2005, and the Tashkent State Law Institute in 2007. His academic background includes degrees in finance (banking and credit) and law.
Ishmetov previously served as the Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan from February 2020 to December 2022. Since December 2022, he has held the position of First Deputy Advisor to the President on Economic Sector Development, Investment, and Foreign Trade Policy.
Additionally, it should be noted that the President of Uzbekistan had earlier proposed the dismissal of Mamarizo Nurmurodov, the former Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan. Following this proposal, the Council of the Senate also adopted a resolution to dismiss Nurmurodov from his post.
