As of December, the average wholesale price of 1 kg of tomatoes in Uzbekistan is 19,000 soums, as reported by EastFruit analysts.
According to estimates, from October 6 to December 1, 2023, the average wholesale price of 1 kg of tomatoes in Uzbekistan increased from 4,000 to 19,000 soums ($0.33 to $1.55). This indicates that the price of tomatoes has surged by 4.8 times compared to the first ten days of October.
The price of tomatoes in Uzbekistan has been continuously rising for two months. Analysts suggest that the current wholesale price of tomatoes has reached the highest level in the last five years.
"The increase in the price of this product may be attributed to the issue of gas supply for greenhouses. Consequently, fewer tomatoes were cultivated in the farms of Uzbekistan in August and September," states this analysis.
