14052In Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan, the initial onion harvest faces a threat, as highlighted by Erkin Abdulahatov, a specialist from the Uzgidrometereological Center, via his Telegram channel.
It's anticipated that the arrival of cold air masses in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan between February 17th and 20th will significantly impact the onion harvest in these nations, known as the primary onion exporters in the area.
Experts at EastFruit also warn that the cold weather may cause substantial harm to the early onion crop, scheduled for harvest in March in the southern regions of these countries, along with other early maturing vegetables like cabbage and carrots.
Furthermore, there's a risk to part of the dried fruit and almond harvest.
Bakhtiyor Abduvahidov, an international expert in fruit and vegetable cultivation, notes recent exceptionally hot weather in the region, with daytime temperatures exceeding 20 degrees Celsius. Almond trees in many regions have already bloomed, and other fruit trees have begun to bud.
The upcoming cold spell will impact the early onion harvest across various regions.
Past seasons indicate potential losses in the early onion crop and a decline in onion quality due to such weather conditions.
