The Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee reported that one in every two individuals in the country is overweight.
A study, conducted jointly by the committee and the World Health Organization (WHO), focused on individuals aged 18-64 in Uzbekistan. The findings indicated that 67 percent of the population consumes an insufficient amount (less than 400 grams) of vegetables and fruits.
Furthermore, half of the country's population is identified as overweight, with an additional 20 percent classified as obese.
The report highlighted alarming health indicators, noting that 46 percent of individuals exhibit elevated cholesterol levels. The average daily salt consumption stands at 14.9 grams per person, three times higher than the World Health Organization's recommended limit of 5 grams per day.
The analysis emphasizes the consequences of non-compliance with recommended levels of physical activity and nutrition. Consuming excessive amounts of food, especially those high in salt, sugar, and fat, while lacking essential vitamins and minerals, results in stunted growth and mental development among young people. In adults, this unhealthy lifestyle contributes to the development of various diseases, including cardiovascular, endocrine, and malignant tumors, leading to premature death.
