The Press Service of the Ministry of Defense reported that there are currently 174 people, who were active participants and were behind the front lines in the Second World War, living in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

As of the 6th of May this year, 25 of those participants of the war are over 100 years old.  The youngest of them is 78 years old, the oldest is 112 years old.

Now a question arises.  If this year marks the 78th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, how can the youngest war veteran be 78 years old?

QALAMPIR.UZ contacted the press service of the Ministry of Defense in order to clarify this issue.  The response recieved was that the woman, who was born in a concentration camp in Germany in 1944, now lives in the Tashkent region and is 78 years old.

The ministry also provided information on how many war participants live in each region:

In the Republic of Karakalpakstan – 3 people;

6 people in Andijan region;

In Bukhara region – 7 people;

In Jizzakh region – 6 people;

In Kashkadarya region – 10 people;

9 people in Navoi region;

In Namangan region – 7 people;

In Samarkand region – 10 people;

In Syrdarya region – 3 people;

In Surkhandarya region – 8 people;

In Tashkent region – 26 people;

19 people in Fergana region;

It is clear that the largest number of war participants currently live in the city of Tashkent, and the least in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Syrdarya region.
