As previously reported, a delegation from Uzbekistan’s ministries and agencies traveled to Russia to attend a meeting focused on protecting migrants' rights. On April 29, Uzbekistan and Russia reached an agreement to safeguard the rights of migrants, according to a statement from the Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan.

Deputy Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan Shohrukh Aminov participated in the inaugural session of the Uzbekistan–Russia Interdepartmental Working Group on Labor Migration and Protection of Migrants' Rights, which was held in Moscow. The Russian side was led by Deputy Prosecutor General Pyotr Gorodov and included representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Federal Security Service, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs, as well as other relevant institutions.

“The parties discussed the current state of migration, existing challenges, and potential solutions. The meeting participants agreed to develop joint measures aimed at ensuring legality in the field of migration, taking into account the interests of both countries. The Prosecutor General’s Offices of both nations pledged to enhance oversight and monitoring of the arrival of Uzbek citizens in Russia for employment purposes, as well as the observance of their rights during the stay of Russian citizens in Uzbekistan,” the official report stated.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the heads of delegation signed a protocol outlining the decisions made during the working group’s first session. The report emphasized that implementation of the protocol will be overseen by the Prosecutor General’s Offices of both Uzbekistan and Russia.

It should be recalled that a parliamentary inquiry had earlier been submitted to Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov concerning the situation of Uzbeks abroad. In response, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Ahror Burkhanov, reaffirmed that protecting the rights and interests of Uzbek citizens abroad remains a top priority for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, regardless of their location.
