Presidents of Uzbekistan and Georgia hold talks

On July 2, as part of a state visit to Georgia, talks were held between President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili at the Orbeliani Palace in Tbilisi. The press service of the Uzbek leader reported this.

It was noted that the talks focused on further expanding multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Georgia.

The head of state thanked the President of Georgia for the warm hospitality and emphasized that this is the first state visit to the country in the past 23 years.

The sides noted with satisfaction the intensification of contacts between parliaments, governments and business circles.

At the end of last year, trade turnover reached $270 million, and the number of joint projects and enterprises is increasing. Georgia’s leading bank, TBC, is successfully operating in Uzbekistan. Direct flights are being operated between Tashkent and the Georgian cities of Tbilisi and Batumi. In March this year, Georgian Culture Days were successfully held in the Uzbek capital.

Priority attention was paid to further increasing mutual trade, including through the effective use of the potential of the ports of Poti and Batumi.

The sides noted the opportunities available for developing cooperation in pharmaceuticals, the chemical industry, agriculture, transport, energy, digital technologies and tourism.

The importance of expanding interregional ties to promote business, tourism and humanitarian exchanges was emphasized.

At the end of the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Mikheil Kavelashvili to visit Uzbekistan.

Earlier, it was reported that a solemn ceremony to officially welcome President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had been held at the Orbeliani Palace, the residence of the President of Georgia, in Tbilisi.
