Based on data from the Central Asian Interstate Water Management Coordination Commission's scientific information center, the Amudarya provided a total of 47.58 cubic kilometers of water to three countries, excluding Afghanistan, in 2023.

Turkmenistan was the largest consumer of Amudarya water, utilizing 42 percent of the river's flow, equivalent to nearly 20 cubic kilometers of water.

Following Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan utilized 38.4 percent of the river's water, approximately 18.3 cubic kilometers, while Tajikistan accounted for 19.8 percent, more than 9.4 cubic kilometers.

Although there is no available data for Afghanistan's water usage, it currently ranks fourth on the list.

According to the report, Turkmenistan is the leading country in inefficient water usage. In 2023, Turkmenistan's per capita water intake from the Amudarya was 6741.7 cubic meters, based on official population data.

Turkmenistan has been the primary consumer of Amudarya water for several months. Only in February, March, and July did Uzbekistan receive more water from the Amudarya than Turkmenistan.
